Body
H5P is an external tool installed in WebCampus that will allow users to create, share, and reuse HTML5 content. With H5P, users can create and edit interactive videos, presentations, games, and assessments within Canvas. H5P also includes analytics so that instructors can access reports on learners’ responses to interactive pieces.
H5P content can be utilized in both non-graded and graded content within WebCampus:
- Non-Graded interactive content is to display content to students. It can be inserted into any page, discussion, announcement, etc. using the Rich Content Editor. Some non-graded examples are virtual tours, course presentations, and image collages.
- Graded interactive content is for students to submit content for grading and must be created using the WebCampus Assignment External Tool submission type. This will pass a score to the Canvas gradebook. Some graded H5P examples include branching scenarios, multiple choice questionnaires, and image hotspots.
Additionally, refer to Online Education’s Best Practices guide for getting started and recommendations for managing and organizing your H5P content.
Non-Graded H5P Content
If you would like the H5P content to count towards the student's final grade, don't follow these instructions. Skip forward to Graded H5P Content.
The Rich Content Editor (RCE) is available in Announcements, Assignments*, Discussions, Pages, and Quizzes. To insert H5P Interactive content using the RCE:
- While in Edit mode, select Tools (a) > Apps or Apps (b) in the RCE.
- Select H5P – Interactive Content. If it does not appear, select View All first.
To load an existing item:
- Click on the Folder where your activity resides in H5P
- Click Insert next to the H5P item you want to add
- Click Save or Save and Publish
To create a new item:
- If this is your first time accessing H5P, select New Folder to create a main folder. See the Best Practices for H5P Guide.

Graded H5P Content
If you want to have students assigned a grade when they complete H5P content, you will need to create an assignment and utilize the External Tool submission type.
If you use student view to test your H5P content, a grade will not pass back to the gradebook. Only student submissions will pass a grade back for the H5P assignment.

- Add an Assignment Name and configure your assignment settings.
- In the Submission Type section, select External Tool (a) from the drop down list.
- Select Find (b)
