Transcripts and Captions in Zoom Meetings

Summary

Zoom can automatically transcribe what people speak which can be used to create a transcript and show captions to other viewers.

Body

Default Zoom Captions are computer generated

Zoom Captions and translation are computer generated based with speech-to-text technology and are not human generated captions. Contact the Office of Accessibility Resources if you need human generated captioning.

Zoom can show captions using speed-to-text technology to help participants read what they hear. Captions can be shown or hidden using the Show/Hide Captions button in the meeting controls.

Settings are available in the menu to the right of the Show/Hide Captions:

  • Speaking language: Changes what language you are speaking in to properly transcribe your speech
  • View Full Transcript: Shows you a full transcript of auto-generated captions from the meeting
  • Caption settings: Adjusts more settings, like font size

If you are a host, you can adjust additional settings:

  • Disable captions will disable captioning for everyone and prevent a transcript from being created
  • Set up manual captioner allows you to designate someone as a human captioner to generate captions
