SPSS 31 - Installation and Activation Guide

License Details

• UNLV Faculty and Staff can request free licenses of SPSS 31 to install on a university machine.
• Users with SPSS installed on a university device can request a home-use license from the IT Help Desk to install SPSS on (1) personal device.
• SPSS 31 for Windows is only available for 64bit.

Pre-Install Requirements

• If SPSS 29 is installed, uninstall v29 before installing SPSS 31.
• Computer running Windows OS 64bit or OSX 10.15 or later.

Install SPSS 31

Initial Install

All installation files are located in the X Drive Software Repository. You will need to disconnect and map your X Drive to the device before installing.

Files for SPSS 31 are located in (unless otherwise indicated): Software Repository > SPSS > SPSS Statistics > SPSS 31

macOS Manual Installer

1. From the SPSS 31.0.0 folder, select Mac
2. Launch the installer SPSS31.0.0_Mac.pkg.
3. Once the installer screen appears, click Continue.
   
4. At the Read Me screen, click Continue.
   
5. At the License screen, click Continue.
   
6. Click Agree to accept the license agreement.
   
7. (Optional) If the Destination Select screen appears, select the primary Macintosh HD and click Continue.
8. At the next screen, click Install.
   
9. If you are asked to login to move forward with the installation, please type in your username and password for the Mac computer.
10. Click Install Software.
    
11. Once the installation is complete, click Close.

Windows Manual Installation

1. From the SPSS 31.0.0 folder, select Windows
2. Launch the installer  SPSSStatistics.exe.
3. (Optional) If it asks for confirmation to run the program, press Yes.
   
   
    
4. (Optional) It may ask for you to enter the Network Password, enter your credentials for the Software Repository.
   
   
    
5. Once the installer screen appears, click Next.
   
   
    
6. (Optional) If a warning screen appears, click Next.

7. At the License Agreement screen, select I accept the terms in the license agreement.
8. Click Next.
   
   
    
9. At the Destination Folder screen, click Next.
   
   
    
10. At the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install.
    
    
     
11. Once the installation is done, please make sure the box is checked for Start IBM SPSS Statistics now.
12. Click Finish.
    
    
     
13. (Optional) If prompted to restart, close all apps you have open and restart computer.
14. Once SPSS 31 launches, follow the network or site activation guide at the end of this article to activate SPSS.

Post Installation

Be sure to activate SPSS 31 after the install is complete.

Be sure to disconnect your X Drive, permanently delete any installer files from the local device, and restart the computer before disconnecting with the customer.

Activate SPSS 31 License

Pre-Activation Requirements

• Active internet connection.
• Please consider using the network license for UNLV barcoded computers.
• The SPSS site license is recommended for the following:
  • UNLV laptops used for travel
  • Users with a home-use license who cannot connect to VPN

Network Activation (Preferred)

1. Launch SPSS 31 (aka IBM SPSS Statistics).
2. (Optional) If it asks for a confirmation to run the program, click Yes.
   
   
    
3. Once the Activate IBM SPSS Statistics screen appears, click Launch License Wizard.
   • If you are renewing the license or the activation screen doesn't appear, once SPSS 31 opens go to File > Manage License to access the activation tool.
     
     
      
4. Once the Product Authorization screen appears, select Concurrent user license.
5. Click Next.
   
   
    
6. At the License Manager screen, enter this license server address: lic1.oit.unlv.edu
7. Click Next.
   
   
    
8. Once the Licensing Completed screen appears, verify the expiration date is in the future.
9. Click Finish.
   
   

Site Key Activation

1. Launch SPSS 31 (aka IBM SPSS Statistics).
2. (Optional) If it asks for a confirmation to run the program, click Yes.
   
   
    
3. Once the Activate IBM SPSS Statistics screen appears, click Launch License Wizard.
   • If you are renewing the license or the activation screen doesn't appear, once SPSS 31 opens go to File > Manage License to access the activation tool.
     
     
      
4. (Optional) If the License Status screen appears, click Next.
5. At the Product Authorization screen, select Authorized user license.
6. Click Next.
   
   
    
7. At the Enter Codes screen, enter the SPSS Site License code. You can determine the code via the Excel sheet on Google Drive. 8. Click Add.
   
   
    
9. Verify the key appears in the main box.
10. Click Next.
    
    
     
11. At the Internet Authorization Status screen, verify that the authorization was successful.
12. Click Next.
    
    
     
13. At the Licensing Completed screen, verify the expiration date is in the future.
14. Click Finish.
    
    
     
15. (Optional) If the Restart IBM SPSS Statistics screen appears, click Restart.

Recording

Once the install is complete, collect and/or verify the following information:

• Device Barcode (UNLV PID)
• Platform (Windows or macOS)
• Office Location or Home

Then, notify Software Management of the install. 

• OIT Technicians, refer to the [OIT] Notifying Software Management of Installs KB article.
• Non-OIT Technicians, notify Software Management per your internal documentation or agreements.
