Core Naming Rules

To keep your workspace clean and searchable:

  1. Use all lowercase. Slack converts names to lowercase anyway.

  2. Use hyphens (-) to separate words. Never use spaces or underscores.

  3. Keep names concise. Be descriptive, but avoid long, unwieldy names.

  4. Prefix first. Always start the channel name with the designated prefix followed by a hyphen (e.g., team-marketing, not marketing-team).

This is a versatile prefix used to centralize incoming requests and information for a specific department. It serves as the front door for support, questions, and sometimes official announcements.

 

announce- (Official, One-Way Communication)

Use this prefix for channels dedicated to official, important news where conversation is restricted or discouraged. This ensures that major updates, company-wide memos, and leadership messages are not missed.

 

social- (Culture and Interests)
