Body

🎮 Esports Gaming Lounge

Overview

The Esports Gaming Lounge is a designated PC lab for students to play games during operational hours. It is open to all students with a RebelCard during the following times:

  • Weekdays: 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM

  • Weekends: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

At the end of each day, lab computers are scheduled to shut down automatically.

Key Roles:

  • SLT Technicians: Responsible for monthly maintenance and updates.

  • Lab Monitors: Oversee the lounge during open hours and report any issues.

đŸ› ī¸ Monthly Maintenance & Updating Process

SLT Technicians perform updates at the beginning of each month to ensure a smooth experience for all users. All updates should be done while computers are in “Thawed” mode (see DeepFreeze).

General Update Instructions:

  • Run updates for all listed applications.

  • Updates can run simultaneously.

  • Move to the next computer once updates are in progress.

  • Create personal accounts for any platforms that require a login (if you don’t have one already).

✅ Applications to Update

🔄 Windows Updates

  1. Open Start Menu and type “Check for updates.”

  2. Install all available updates.

  3. Reboot if necessary.

🔁 It's best to run Windows updates either first or last, so it doesn't interfere with game launcher updates.

đŸ•šī¸ Game Launchers

Launcher Update Notes
Epic Games Go to Library → Ensure all games are queued for updates. Fortnite updates are time-consuming.
Battle.net Only one PC can be fully online at once. On others, click “Stay Offline” to proceed with updates.
Steam Make sure games are updated. Apex Legends takes longer than most.
Riot Games League of Legends and Valorant usually update quickly.
Roblox Simply open the app; updates auto-run until you reach the homepage.
EA App Not used as often, but still must be kept up to date.

❄ī¸ DeepFreeze Application

DeepFreeze is a system recovery tool that restores computers to a saved state after each reboot.

  • Frozen Mode (Default): All changes are discarded on reboot (used during lounge hours).

  • Thawed Mode: Allows updates and configuration changes to be saved.

Update Procedure:

  1. Thaw each computer before beginning updates.

  2. Run and verify all updates are completed.

  3. Re-Freeze each machine after updates are finished.

  4. If any system was accidentally left thawed during lounge hours, it must be re-imaged even if it appears unaffected.

  5. If DeepFreeze fails to re-freeze a computer after updates and shows a message like “Windows is still running updates”, uninstall and reinstall DeepFreeze, then attempt to freeze the system again.

📆 Technicians should update the Esports image at least once per semester.

📋 Issue Reporting

  • Lab Monitors document issues in the “Issues Log” spreadsheet.

  • SLT Technicians will receive alerts about reported issues via the technician group chat.

🧠 Additional Notes

  • Ensure you're logged out of personal accounts before leaving the workstation.

  • Confirm that each update has gone through successfully before moving on.

  • For ongoing hardware or performance issues, place a maintenance sign and move the computer to storage if needed.
