Salto: How to trouble shoot "Doesn't Belong to System" Error

Summary

This article details three ways to trouble shoot the "Doesn't Belong to System" Error that might pop up on Salto locks.

Body

There are three ways to address a “Doesn’t Belong to System” Error

Method 1: Adjust the Batteries

  • To do this you will need to remove the back panel of the Salto lock by unscrewing the bottom screw of the panel. For Salto the panel screws are counter intuitive as to “unscrew” the screw you need to turn the screwdriver right to loosen the panel from the door.( Turning left tightens the screw, Turning right loosens the screw)

  • This will allow you to access the battery pack where you can adjust the batteries by taking out one or more of the batteries and placing them back in the battery pack.

  • After you are done adjusting the batteries you should hear a beep coming from the lock signaling to you that you are now able to try connecting to the lock.

  • Then connect to the lock as you typically would, selecting the “update lock button” and holding the PPD to the lock.

This should help rest the lock to be able to connect to the PPD.

Method 2: Erase/ Reset

  • Connect to the lock via the PPD cord

  • Select Erase to rest the lock

  • After the lock is erased, perform the normal Initializing procedure.

    • Click the initialize option and hold the programer to the door lock

Method 3: Force Initialization

  • Remove the lock from the door.

  • Remove the front reader plate to access the internal CLEAR button.

  • Press and hold the CLEAR button.

  • While Continuing to hold CLEAR, select Initialize on the PPD.

This forces the lock to accept initialization.

Overall, start by adjusting the batteries as it is the quickest and simplest way to fix the issue. If the issue persists, continue with either Erasing the lock or Forcing Initialization.
