Logging In

  1. Go to claude.ai.
  2. Enter your UNLV Mail (@unlv.edu) or RebelMail (@unlv.nevada.edu) address.
  3. Choose Continue with SSO and sign in with ACE.

🔴 UNLV Guideline: Always log in with SSO, not the "Log in with email" magic link option. SSO ensures your account is properly connected to UNLV's systems and that you have access to the correct features. Signing in with a magic link can result in a disconnected or limited account.

Understanding Your Claude Access

UNLV provides three ways to access Claude, all built on the same underlying products: Claude Chat, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code. The difference between them is how much you can use.

Feature     Claude Pro    Claude Premium    Claude Max
Who has it      Everyone, by default       By request    By request
Cost    Consumption-based, no seat fee      $100/month    $200/month
Products included    Chat, Cowork, Code    Chat, Cowork, Code    Chat, Cowork, Code
Usage    Equivalent to Anthropic's consumer Pro plan    Equivalent to Anthropic's consumer Max 5x plan    Equivalent to Anthropic's consumer Max 20x plan

💡 UNLV Best Practice: Most people never need more than Claude Pro, the default environment. If you regularly hit usage limits because of sustained work like long Claude Code sessions or heavy document processing, that's a sign to request Premium or Max rather than working around limits.

Requesting Premium or Max

Submit an Upgraded Claude Access request here.

⚠️ Note: API access (for building your own applications or integrations) is separate from all three tiers above and is not included in any of them. UNLV is developing a request process for AI API access. Please check back for more details.

If You Already Have a Personal Claude Account

If you signed up for Claude with your UNLV email before the enterprise rollout, UNLV will claim that account into its verified domain. When this happens, you'll get an email and an in-product notice with a window of at least 30 days to choose between merging your data into your new UNLV account or exporting what you want and starting fresh.

During the 30-day window, you can sign in and choose Merge and Join or Join Fresh. If you don't choose by the deadline, your personal account is automatically deactivated and you'll be given a fresh UNLV account, with your old data emailed to you. There isn't an option to keep the personal account active indefinitely alongside your UNLV account, with one exception: if your subscription was purchased through the Apple App Store, Anthropic can't auto-cancel it, so 'keep both' becomes your only option until you cancel it manually through your Apple ID settings.

🔴 UNLV Guideline: Data does not automatically transfer between Claude environments, including when moving from a personal account into Claude Pro, or when moving from Claude Pro into Premium or Max. If you're moving environments and want to keep something, copy or export it before you switch. Your prior environment will remain available at reduced usage so you have time to retrieve anything you need, it just won't be your primary workspace going forward.

Using Claude Responsibly

How UNLV handles your data:

Enterprise AI platforms licensed by UNLV, including ChatGPT, Claude, and their associated tools and integrations, are institutional technology resources governed by UNLV's Acceptable Use of Computing and Information Technology Resources Policy and Institutional Data Governance and Management Policy. As with other university-managed systems such as email and cloud storage, platform administrators may access usage data, activity logs, and conversation content for legitimate institutional purposes, including security, compliance, and policy enforcement. Users should treat these platforms accordingly.

💡 UNLV Best Practice: Anthropic does not use UNLV data submitted to Claude to train its models.

🔴 UNLV Guideline: Do not upload the following to Claude:

  • Personally identifiable information (names, contact information, birthdate, salary, NSHE ID, and similar)
  • FERPA-protected student records
  • Protected health information (PHI). UNLV is in the process of finalizing the HIPAA configuration for Claude; do not submit PHI until that work is complete.
  • Restricted research data or information covered by an NDA
  • Institutional data of any kind, unless it has been anonymized first

When in doubt, anonymize or leave it out. See the full AI Best Practices page for more detail.

⚠️ Note: Anthropic maintains ISO 27001:2022, ISO/IEC 42001:2023, and SOC 2 Type I and Type II certifications at the infrastructure level. UNLV has configured Claude for our specific environment, including our settings, integrations, and data handling practices.
