5 Minutes with Claude

Segment 1 — Your First Login

You sign in with your UNLV account, and there are just three areas worth knowing on day one.

Walkthrough

  1. Go to claude.ai/unlv and enter your UNLV email address. Upon entering it, the Continue with SSO option will appear. Select this option. This is the same login you use for other campus systems, so there's no new password to create.

When you login with Claude on their website and put in your UNLV email address, the button labeled Continue with SSO will appear which you can use to login.

  2. Upon logging in, you land in a new chat. Three areas are worth knowing today:

    • The message box, which is where you type.

    • The sidebar on the left which lists your past chats, plus Projects, Artifacts, and Design.

    • Your initials or name in the lower-left corner. Selecting this allows you to access "Settings," where you can personalize everything.

Parts of the user interface of Claude AI on their website are labeled, including the message box in the center of the page, the sidebar on the left, and your initials and settings in the lower left corner.

  3. To start, type "Hi — what can you help me with?" and press Enter. That is the primary loop in using Claude: type your message, send it, and read the generated response.

  4. Select "New (+)," the option on the top of the left-hand sidebar, whenever you switch topics. Each chat keeps its own thread, so topic do not get “muddled.”
