Windows 10 Computer Replacement - User Instructions

Windows 10 will sunset in October of this year. UNLV Information Technology has funding to replace computers that can't be upgraded to Windows 11 with Lenovo M70 Towers, at no cost to departments/colleges.

Pre-Installed Software

IT will install standard software on your computer before we deliver it to you.

  • Latest version of Microsoft Office
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Google Chrome and Google Drive
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Zoom
  • Webex
  • Antivirus Protection

If you need a specific software that isn't available in the UNLV Software Center, please reply to your notification email with the titles that you need installed.

Monitors and External Connections

The new Lenovo computers support only dual monitors with one HDMI and one DisplayPort connection. If you wish to obtain a quote for additional cables or adapters, please submit a Hardware Purchase Consultation request or you may order directly from CDW-G with a P-card.

Backup Your Files

Your old computer will be removed and sent to surplus in accordance with university policy.

Be sure to have all your previous files and data backed up in advance by saving your files using the option that suits your best:

  • X:/ or Y:/ Network Shares

  • Your UNLVMail Google Drive

  • External or Flash Drives: Save important files to an external USB drive or Departmental External Drives.

If you need assistance with file transfers, our technician will be available to help during the setup of your new computer.

Delivery and Surplussing Old Devices

At the time of your appointment, our technician will arrive to install, connect, and help you login with your ACE account if needed. You do not need to be present so long as someone within your office is available to allow the IT staff access to set up the new computer and surplus the old one.
