Before You Begin: Privileged ACE Account Required
GitLab requires a privileged ACE account, which is a separate account from your regular UNLV ACE account. It typically follows the format firstname.lastname.
Please request a privileged ACE account if you need one before you try to log in to GitLab.
Request UNLV GitLab Access
Please request access to the GitLab tenant if you do not already have access. Once approved, you will receive an email invitation to join the UNLV GitLab.
- Click the Join Now button from your invitation email.

- GitLab requires users to have a GitLab.com account, which is then connected to your UNLV privileged ACE account. You can either:
- Use an existing GitLab.com account (which can be any email address, including your UNLV address or a personal email address).
- Create a new GitLab.com account using your UNLV address.
If you have an existing GitLab.com username and password that you wish to use:
- Sign in to your Gitlab.com account with your existing username and password.
- Then, navigate to ace.unlv.edu, sign in, and click the GitLab tile.

- When prompted, click Authorize to connect your UNLV ACE account with your GitLab account.

Request Group Access from Your Department
After you have successfully accepted the UNLV GitLab invitation and connected or created an account, your account will have minimal access by default. You will be restricted from making changes to UNLV’s top-level group.
Contact your team/unit leadership to update your user role and request access to the groups or projects you need.
Log In to GitLab
Once you have accepted the UNLV GitLab invitation and connected an account, you can log in to the UNLV GitLab in two ways.
Tip: Create
multiple browser profiles to log in with different ACE accounts. This allows you to be signed in with both your regular ACE (aceid) and your privileged ACE accounts simultaneously.
- Go to ace.unlv.edu and enter your privileged (
firstname.lastname) ACE account credentials.
- Select the GitLab Prod SAML tile.

- You will be directed to the UNLV GitLab dashboard.
- Visit the UNLV GitLab Sign-In Page and click Sign In.

- You will be redirected to Okta. Sign in with your privileged ACE account (
firstname.lastname).

Troubleshooting
"User is not assigned to this application" Error

You may have logged in with your regular ACE account. To troubleshoot:
-
Verify that you are logged in with a privileged ACE account:
-
Log in to ace.unlv.edu
-
Click your name in the upper right corner
-
Click Settings
-
Verify Okta username follows the firstname.lastname convention and User type says “Privileged”

If you are logged in with a regular (non-privileged) ACE account:
- Create a separate browser profile and log in with your privileged ACE account (
firstname.lastname).
- Alternatively, go to ace.unlv.edu, open the Account menu, select Sign Out, and sign in with the correct privileged ACE account.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may not have a privileged ACE account or GitLab access assigned. Contact the IT Help Desk for additional assistance.
404: Page not found error

This indicates there is something wrong with the permissions on your account, which could include:
- You don’t have an invitation to UNLV’s GitLab: Contact the IT Help Desk for confirmation or to request access.
- Connecting your GitLab.com account was not successful: Locate the "Join Now" invitation email and complete the process again.
- Your accounts were connected, but you haven’t been assigned permissions: Contact your leadership/group owner for assistance verifying your permissions and assignments.
