Data and Acceptable Use with AI at UNLV

Acceptable Use

As negotiated in all UNLV IT enterprise agreements, UNLV enterprise AI tools do not use user data to train the vendor or any internal UNLV models. However, UNLV enterprise tools may retain your chats or your data. Do not enter personal data, or use the tools in ways that violate terms of service. Assume that all chats, and use of tools are discoverable.

Data Transfer: Personal to UNLV Workspace

If you previously had a personal ChatGPT or Claude account, and want to move into the UNLV Workspace, you may be wondering what happens to your data. Data does not transfer between personal accounts and accounts in the UNLV Workspace, even if the email address associated with those accounts is the same.

Data Transfer: One Account to Another

For privacy and security compliance, EDU AI accounts do not allow mass data exports. The options below can be used as workarounds to "export" your data.

  • Option 1: Turn individual chats into a PDF file to export, or copy and paste the chat into a document. Download any artifacts if the environment allows it.

  • Option 2: If the tool permits, create a sharable link to the chat, understanding that the link may not persist forever as vendor terms and data retention may change.

  • Option 3: Prompt for a summary of the chat or content to create a “seed file” for the new environment (“Summarize this chat so I can export it and start it where we left off in a new context window/AI environment).
