In Poll Everywhere, there are seven basic types of activities that you can create. These are:
- Multiple Choice
- Word Cloud
- Q&A
- Clickable Image
- Survey
- Open-Ended
- Competition
Templates, which are found under More, are pre-built activities using the basic seven types, but are customized for specific purposes. There are sixteen. Below are a few, with their corresponding basic activity type:
- Ice Breaker (Word Cloud)
- Leaderboard (Multiple Choice)
- Emotion Scale (Clickable Image)
- Presentation Feedback (Survey)
- Brainstorm (Open-Ended)
Multiple Choice
Multiple choice questions allow your audience to select one or more answer choices. These can take the form of a) text-only choices or b) can be images, with alternative text. You can also c) designate one or more “correct” answers to mimic a quiz experience.

Word Cloud
When audience members submit single-word responses, these will be visualized in a “cloud” of words. The cloud will shift in real-time as answers come in, and words that appear in the cloud are the most frequent submissions.

Q&A
With a Q&A, audience members can submit short-answer responses of max. 300 characters. Other audience members can upvote these responses.

Clickable Images
As the presenter, you can upload a custom image (or select a pre-uploaded image from the Poll Everywhere library) and define regions which your audience can interact with.
You can define multiple regions, how big the interaction area is, and the name of the region to easily track responses.

Audiences can then place a pin on the area of the image they can interact with.

Survey
If you want your activity to have more than one question each, use a survey. Surveys contain multiple questions that your audience can answer at their own pace.
When making a survey, you can mix and match activity types; one question can be multiple choice, for instance, while another is a clickable image. You can use any activity type for the questions in your survey—except for Competition.

Open-Ended
In an open-ended activity, your audience can respond with a short, written answer. These can be displayed either as a word cloud, a text wall, or as a spotlight.

To set the way open-ended answers are displayed, you must change the visual settings after you create it. This can be accessed when editing the activity.

Competition
In a competition, like a survey, you can use multiple questions. However, here, you are restricted to a) using multiple choice questions and b) setting correct answer(s) to each question. Each question in a competition has a flat value of 1,000 points, though that can change if you add a timer to the competition.
