Assign Different Availability or Due Date for a Specific Student

This guide will show how to set different due/availability dates for different sections or individual students for assignments, quizzes, and graded discussions. Other than setting different dates for different sections, this is also used for when students need to submit their attempt after the availability date has passed.

A few things to keep in mind before proceeding:

  • It is important not to remove the "Everyone" or "Everyone Else" tag when adding another assignee. Removing this tag will remove the grades of the other students in the gradebook.Only remove this tag if the assignment/discussion/quiz is only assigned to selective students. This tag can be added back to the assignment/discussion/quiz if it was previously removed.
  • Only the student(s) specified in the "Assign to" section can view the assignment. Students who are not assigned the assignment will have a grayed out cell in the Gradebook. Grades cannot be assigned for students who have not been included in the assignment, and assignments that are not assigned to a student are not factored into overall grades.
  • The option to add another assignee or assign to individual students will not be available for ungraded discussions. If you would like to use this feature for discussions, then it has to be a graded discussion.

Instructions

  1. Open the assignment, quiz, or discussion that you want to modify.
  2. Scroll down to the Assign section, and it will show the current assignee dates.
  3. Select +Add and a new Assign to box will appear.

  1. Enter or select the student's name, or section, in the new box.
  2. Add the new availability until and due dates. The available from box can be left blank, as it will inherit the available from date from the original box.

  1. Select Save once you are done making the changes.
