Remote Desktop must be set up in advance
Customers who wish to setup Remote Desktop must do so while on-campus with access to the device. Please contact the IT Help Desk to have your device setup for Remote Desktop.
If your office desktop computer is setup for Remote Desktop, you can connect to it remotely using any Windows or macOS device using Microsoft Remote Desktop.
Connecting to Remote Desktop
- From the Start menu, open Remote Desktop Connection
- For Computer, enter your computer's hostname or IP address that was given to you by the IT Help Desk during setup
- Hostnames will be formatted with a two letter prefix, followed by your device's UNLV property ID number, followed by ad.unlv.edu. For example, IT-123456.ad.unlv.edu
- IP Addresses will be formatted 10.##.##.###
- Select Connect
- When prompted, select Use a different account
- Enter your ACE username as AD\[ACE username] and your ACE password
- Select OK
Your device should then connect. Remote Desktop Connection should remember the last computer you connected to, but you should note in a safe place your computer's hostname or IP address for future use.
- Install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Mac App Store
- Launch Remote Desktop
- Select Add Desktop
- For PC Name, enter your computer's hostname or IP address that was given to you by the IT Help Desk during setup
- Hostnames will be formatted with a two letter prefix, followed by your device's UNLV property ID number, followed by ad.unlv.edu. For example, IT-123456.ad.unlv.edu
- IP Addresses will be formatted 10.##.##.###
- Select Save
- Double-click on the computer created
- When prompted, enter your ACE username as AD\[ACE username] and your ACE password
- Select Connect
Your device should then connect. Remote Desktop Connection should remember the last computer you connected to, but you should note in a safe place your computer's hostname or IP address for future use.
