Copying Panopto Videos

This article discusses the process of bulk and manual copying of Panopto videos from one course or folder to another.

Before You Begin

Before you can move or copy content, make sure that:

  1. Panopto is enabled in your WebCampus course and you have clicked on it to generate the folder in your course.
  2. Videos have been edited for FERPA compliance, such as removing or disguising any student participation
  3. Videos have been captioned per UNLV Accessibility Standards and Procedures.
  4. You reviewed all options for reusing Panopto content before proceeding with these instructions

Copying

Bulk Copy

Bulk Copy allows you to copy multiple videos in a folder at once, then move them to another folder. This option will creates reference copies of selected videos which can be moved independently to new locations. This option will also work to create reference copies when the source is your "My Folder."

  1. Go to WebCampus and open the course where your videos are located. If you want to copy from your "My Folder," select any WebCampus course.
  2. In the left navigation, select Panopto Recordings.
    1. If you do not see Panopto Recordings, you will need to activate it.
  3. Select Open in a new tab to launch the full version of Panopto.

  4. In the left navigation, confirm you are in the right folder. If you need to switch to your "My Folder," select My Folder.
  5. Select one, or multiple videos by clicking the box at the top left corner of each video
  6. Select the Copy icon

  7. Select the destination folder from the drop-down menu, or type in the name of the destination folder if it is not visible in the drop-down
  8. Select Copy

The copy process will complete automatically and generate reference copies in the requested folder. Any reference copy can become a full copy if you try to edit the content of the reference copy.te

Manual Copy

Manual Copy allows you to select a few videos to individually copy. This also provides the option to immediately create a full copy of a video. Manual copies can only be made one video at a time, not in bulk.

In addition to the below instructions, follow this video to copy and paste Panopto Videos

  1. Go to WebCampus and open the course where your videos are located. If you want to copy from your "My Folder," select any WebCampus course
  2. In the left navigation, select Panopto Recordings
  3. Locate the video you want to copy and hover over the thumbnail
  4. Select the gear icon to access the video's settings

  5. In the left navigation, select Manage
  6. Under the Copy Video header:
    1. Choose a name for the copy. By default, it will be the original title followed by "(copy)." This can be changed later.
    2. Select the folder where you want to put the copy. By default, this will select the folder the video is currently located
  7. Then, you will have two options:
    1. Create Reference Copy to generate a reference copy. Reference copies are linked to the original video, so any edits you make to the original video will be reflected in any reference copies.
    2. Create Full Copy to generate a full, independent copy. This acts as a completely separate video, independent of the original video.

      Step 2: Select "Manage" Step 3: Edit copy name and select the appropriate copy link

This will begin the copy process. Reference copies should be available within a few moments. Full copies will take longer while Panopto generates and processes the new video.
