Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Overview

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows for a temporary, encrypted connection to UNLV's network across the internet, allowing for the secure transfer of information and data securely and giving users access to campus resources that would otherwise be inaccessible. When connected to VPN, all internet traffic is routed via the campus network.

When You May Need to Use VPN

VPN is required to access the following resources.

  • Remote Desktop Access: FortiClient VPN can be used to access your desktop remotely when configured in advance. You will need to reserve an IP address and to configure the desktop in advance by enabling RDP and disabling power saving features. Please contact the IT Help Desk or complete the Remote Desktop Assistance request form to request this service.
  • Specialized access to servers and databases located on campus
  • RebelApps

VPN is NOT necessary for accessing these resources, which are available using your ACE login.

  • Google Docs and other Google Workspace applications
  • Google Drive
  • Library databases
  • UNLVMail or Rebelmail email
  • WebCampus
  • WorkDay
  • X:\ or Y:\ network drive (use Rebelfiles instead)
  • Zoom

Eligibility

UNLV students, employees, guests and emeritus can request this service.

Getting Started
