Wired Connection Services

Overview

This service request is for activating/supporting an existing port that is not currently active or is having issues. Examples of Requesting Activation or Support:

Request Activation

  • Connecting a device to the UNLV hard-wired network
    • Specify the device
    • User of device, does this need to be POE (Power over Ethernet) 

Request Support

  • Connectivity problems
  • Slow network speeds
  • Intermittent connection
  • Cable-related issues
  • Network configuration errors
  • Network security vulnerabilities
  • Hardware failures
Eligibility

Spaces that are managed by Student Life are eligible for this service request.

For Request Support, please make sure to troubleshoot your issue before submitting your request:

  • Check cable connections
    • Is anything damaged/broken/not plugged in all the way on both ends?
  • Restart the device
  • Ask others in your area if they are currently having similar issues
  • Try a different Ethernet port or cable
  • Check OIT's status page to see if there is a current network outage
Getting Started

To request this service please have the following information ready:

  • The kind of device that will be connected (Desk phone, Desktop Computer, etc)
  • The building and room
  • UNLV Property ID of device (PID)
  • If available, please include the port number that is located on the wall faceplate for the port.
    • Some face plates do not have this information, if this happens please best describe where the port is located
