Technology Loan Program

To help remove barriers to technology access, enrolled UNLV students can borrow technology on a per-semester basis through the Technology Loan Program. Technology available includes laptops and wireless hotspots. Supplies are limited.

Requesting a Loan

Students can submit a request online. Once approved, the Technology Loan Program will contact the customer with instructions on where to pickup the device.

Once the request is granted, instructions to pick up the technology will be emailed to the student.

Installing Software

Check the software directory to find software that is available for home use, or in computer labs, or RebelApps.

Students with loaned laptops can install software by requesting temporary administrator access.

Returning Devices

At the end of each semester, you will receive an email from the Technology Loan Program to reminde you when and where to return your loaner device.

Returns

You may return your device at any time, but you must return your device if requested to do so.

If you are returning your device, be sure to save any data you need from the device before returning it. All devices are wiped upon return with no data recovery. Also, be sure to return all equipment and accessories including all chargers.

Return In Person

You must return your device at the Technology Loan Program office at WRI C211.

The office for the Technology Loan Program is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm, excluding holidays.

Return By Mail

If you are unable to come to the IT Help Desk to return your equipment, you may also return your equipment by mail.

If you are returning by mail please complete, print, and include a Technology Loan Program Return By Mail packing slip. If you cannot print the form, then write the same information onto a sheet of paper and include in the box.

We strongly recommend using Pack and Ship service at the UPS Store as a convenient way to ship your equipment, however, you can use any shipping carrier. We strongly recommend using a service that provides a tracking number and insurance for your equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

We offer devices free of charge to any student actively enrolled in classes for the current semester. Requests can be made by selecting "Request Device" on this page.

After making a request you’ll receive an email when a device is ready for you to pick up. In order to ensure fairness devices are loaned out on a first come first serve basis.

After receiving a confirmation email you will have a week to pick up your device. If you are unable to make sure to respond to the confirmation email, otherwise your request will be canceled and your device be given to the next person in the queue.

For your pickup appointment make sure to bring your RebelCard or other government-issued photo ID. You will also be asked for the ticket number of your request. This is available in the confirmation email.

All loaner devices come with the following pre-installed: 

  • Respondus Lockdown Browser
  • Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Firefox 
  • Google Chrome 
  • RStudio
  • Zoom

Additionally you can access a number of software titles remotely using RebelApps.

We do not place any restrictions on what programs you can install on your device, however in order to install a program you will have to request temporary administrator access. You can do so using MakeMeAdmin installed on your device.

All loaner devices must be returned on or before the week after the end of the semester. Reminders for return, as well as any updates will be sent to your RebelMail, so be sure to check it regularly.

Before returning your device make sure to backup any data you wish to keep after returning. After we receive a loaner device we delete all data and cannot recover any deleted files. We recommend using Google Drive with your ACE account, or using a secondary storage device such as a flash drive or external hard drive.

After returning you should receive an email confirmation shortly after. Make sure to also return the device charger as well as a Wi-Fi Hotspot if provided.

We accept returns made by mail, however will have to pay for any shipping costs. We recommend using the UPS Pack and Ship service, but you may use any shipping carrier. We strongly recommend using a service that provides a tracking number and insurance for you equipment.

Previously extensions of loaner devices were offered for up to two semesters. However due to a large number of overdue devices we will not be offering extensions for the time being.

The College of Engineering has a number of devices reserved for sophomore and higher engineering students. These devices are only available to students with a major under the college of engineering.

A number of high-performance programs can be run remotely using RebelApps. The Computer Labs also has many high-performance programs available. You can search for your program in the Software Directory to see if it is available in any of the computer labs.

In the event that a device is damaged we ask that you return it to us in order to get it repaired. We will also provide a replacement if needed.
