Panopto Assignment Folders: Student Recording and Submission Guide

Students who need to record and submit multimedia with Panopto can follow these instructions to create, upload, and submit their work.

Is your instructor requiring use of the Panopto lecture capture tool in creating videos for assignments or course requirements? If so, this guide shows you a step-by-step of how to record, upload, and submit assignments (if your instructor has enabled this feature) using Panopto.

Requirements for Recording in Panopto

Instructor Setup Required

Before starting, your instructor must create an assignment folder for your course in Panopto in order for you to be able to download the software or record and upload any video content. If you have been told to record and submit a video in Panopto, but cannot do so, please notify your instructor and have them create an assignment folder for the course.

To record content in Panopto, you will need the following:

  • A desktop or laptop computer running either Windows or macOS
  • High quality microphone with USB connectivity.
    • Some devices and cameras come with built-in microphones, which will work if you are not planning to move around during your presentation.
  • Optionally, a high quality video camera with USB connectivity.
    • If you do not wish to record your face, you have the option of doing an audio-only recording.
  • A stable internet connection to upload your video

University Libraries offers cameras, microphones, and space to record content though their Multimedia Production program.
