Preparing for International Travel (or limited mobile connectivity)

ACE Multifactor Authentication has replaced Google 2-Step Verification

When you sign in to your UNLVMail account, you'll now be prompted to sign in to your ACE Account. You'll use your MFA methods set up for your ACE Account, instead of any methods setup for Google 2-Step Verification. The IT Help Desk strongly recommends setting up Okta Verify.

If you are going to be traveling internationally, or to an area with little to no cellular coverage, you will want to be prepared to complete multifactor authentication while your mobile device is offline.

Setup your device for Offline MFA

You will need to prepare your ACE account for MFA before traveling.

Option 1: Okta Verify

Okta Verify can still receive push notifications if your device is connected to Wi-Fi. Okta Verify can also work offline to generate codes. We highly recommend using Okta Verify. You can set it up in the ACE Dashboard if you have not already done so.

Option 2: Security Key

If you do not have a compatible mobile device, you can request a Security Key from the IT Help Desk.

Signing in with Okta Verify Offline

When signing into your ACE Account, and your cell phone does not have Internet connection, you will need to utilize the six-digit code generated by the Okta Verify app. You will not receive a push notification.

  1. Sign in to your ACE account.
  2. If Okta Verify does not display during ACE sign in, select the dropdown, then select Okta Verify.

  • Enrolled in Okta Verify.
  • Tested you can sign into your ACE Account with the code generated by Okta Verify.
