Zoom's AI tool, in addition to providing summaries, can help answer questions asked by meeting participants about the content of a meeting. Preset questions are provided, such as “Catch me up”, “Was my name mentioned?”, and “What are the action items?”, which can be useful for catching up when you join late or return after stepping away from the meeting. AI Meeting Questions can also help answer more specific questions, like “Was a date agreed on?”
Enabling AI Meeting Questions
- Log into your UNLV Zoom account
- On the left-hand navigation, select Settings
- Select Zoom AI tab
- For the "Allow Users to Ask Meeting Questions with AI" setting, turn the radio button to the ON position

After enabling AI Meeting Questions, you can also select who can ask questions when it is enabled in a meeting. There are some options:
- All Participants: Allows all participants to ask questions about all discussion that has taken place from the time the host activated the AI in the meeting.
- Participants Only from When They Join: Allows all participants to ask questions about anything discussed from the time they joined the meeting; they cannot ask questions about any discussion that occurred prior to the time they joined the meeting.
- Participants and Invitees in Our Organization: Allows anyone who is joining with a UNLV Zoom account to ask questions. The second option for organizational participants restricts users from asking questions about discussion prior to when they joined.
- Only Meeting Host: Allow only the original host, alternative host, and users with host privileges assigned before the meeting starts to ask questions about all discussions since AI Meeting Questions is active.
Using AI Meeting Questions in a Meeting as a Host
After starting a Zoom meeting, look for the Zoom AI button icon in the Zoom meeting controls - these resemble sparkles. If AI Meeting Questions have been turned on in your settings, you are able to access them by selecting the Zoom AI icon at the top of your meeting window and then selecting "Ask Meeting Questions."
By selecting this, AI Meeting Questions will appear in a chat-like side panel. You will be suggested a variety of prompts to start the "conversation" with AI, or you can write your own.

Keep in mind that AI Meeting Questions can only answer about discussion items that occurred since it has been turned on. For example, if it has been turned on at the start of the meeting, it will be able to answer questions from the beginning. If it was turned on midway during the meeting, it can only answer questions about discussion items discussed after it was turned on.
Ending AI Meeting Questions
If the you as the Host wish to discuss topics informally without AI Meeting Questions running for in-meeting queries, you can disable Zoom AI so those topics will not be available for analysis and questions.
- After selecting Zoom AI in the Zoom meeting controls, the Zoom AI panel will open
- Uncheck the checkbox beside Meeting Questions to turn it off

Requesting AI Meeting Questions as a Participant
If you are not the host of a meeting but wish to use AI Meeting Questions in it, you can send a request to the meeting host to enable it. To do so:
- Join a meeting
- At the top of your meeting window, select Zoom AI
Starting AI Meeting Questions
- If not currently enabled for the meeting, you will be prompted to request feature enablement
- Click Send Request
- The request will be sent to the Host in the current meeting
