While Faculty Web runs in the cloud, it is important to make backups of your content in your Faculty Web account. Faculty Web offers a few mechanisms to backup your website.
Automatic Backups with JetBackup
All Faculty Web accounts utilize an automatic backup tool called JetBackup. JetBackup takes backups of your entire cPanel account based on this schedule:
- 3 Daily Backups
- 2 Weekly Backups
- 2 Monthly Backups
If you need to restore a backup, you can either restore your entire cPanel account, or just a few files.
- Go to your Faculty Web Dashboard
- Follow these instructions depending on the type of restore you need to perform
Taking Manual Backups
You may want to take a manual backup of your site for these reasons:
- You are making a large amounts of edits to your site
- You are upgrading any apps on your website
- You would like an additional backup stored in another location
Installatron Backups
Installatron backups are user-friendly, easy backups you can take to make it easy to restore a WordPress site. You may want to do this if you are making a lot of edits to your site, installing or upgrading plugins, or installing or upgrading your WordPress version. If you need to roll your WordPress site back to a backup, it's faster and easier than JetBackup.
Installatron will automatically backup your site during upgrades of WordPress done in Installatron. These will auto expire after 14 days.
Installatron backups do take up your disk space in your Faculty Web account. You should delete any backups you no longer need.
To make a manual backup:
- Go to your Faculty Web Dashboard
- Go to My Apps
- Select Backup for your site
- Select Backup to confirm
To restore a backup:
- Go to your Faculty Web Dashboard
- Go to My Apps
- In the tab bar, select My Backups
- Select Restore for the backup to restore
Manual cPanel Backups
You can also make a backup of your entire cPanel account. This backup can also be used to transfer all of your content to another hosting provider that uses cPanel. This is best if you want additional backups beyond what JetBackup provides.
- Go to your Faculty Web Dashboard
- Select Backup Wizard
- Select Back Up
- Select your backup option
- If you want to backup or transfer your entire cPanel account, select Full Backup
- If you just need to do a general backup, select Home Directory
- Follow the instructions to prepare your backup
To restore a file backup:
- Go to your Faculty Web Dashboard
- Select Backup Wizard
- Select Restore
- Select Home Directory
- Follow the instructions to upload your backup
