Faculty Web hosting accounts have various components used to assist in administering your website and hosting account.
Hosting Components
cPanel
One of the most important components of your hosting account is the cPanel. cPanel is where you administer your hosting account, install apps, manage domains, and other tasks. cPanel also provides information regarding how much disk space your account is using and basic visitor metrics.
cPanel is accessed through the Faculty Web Dashboard (faculty.unlv.edu) and you will use your ACE Account to access the dashboard.
Applications
By default, your hosting account and cPanel will not have any way to create content on your site. In order to publish content, most users will install applications, such as WordPress.
For each application you install using My Apps in cPanel, an Administrator Account will be generated for that application during the installation process. You'll use this account to actually create your content for your site.
Depending on the application you’re working with, managing and resetting the password for this account will vary. If you used My Apps in cPanel to install the application, you can always review the account credentials:
- Log in to cPanel through the Faculty Web Dashboard
- Select My Apps in the Applications section.
- Find the application you installed under My Applications.
- Select Edit (this looks like a blue wrench)
- Scroll down to find the Administrator Username and Password
In addition, most applications should have some kind of password reset link on the login page.
FTP
For customers who wish to upload a fully custom website using HTML files, you can utilize an FTP account to upload these files into Faculty Web. Information on accessing FTP or accessing the File Manager can be found here.
