Recording Content

Question Answer
How to I begin a recording session? If you are not using a classroom with integrated recording equipment, you can either use Panopto for Windows or Mac, or utilize Panopto Capture for the web.
What quality should I record content? Standard, High, or Ultra? We recommend for the best results to use Ultra quality. However, if you are recording multiple sources, or have lower performing hardware, try utilizing High quality.
Can I start my recording over? If you are using Panopto for Windows or Mac, or Panopto Capture, you can start a recording over by selecting Delete and record again once you stop the recording.
I forgot to resume my recording after pausing. Will I need to record again? If you paused the recording and did not end it, Panopto will continue to record in the background. However, in the editor, the paused sections will be shown as cut. You can adjust these cuts in the editor.
How can I edit portions of my recording? Panopto offers some editing capabilities online. For fully featured editing, you will need to download your session and use dedicated video editing.
How can I add captions? Captions can be added in the online editor.

Classrooms with Integrated Recording

Question Answer
Are there rooms on campus where lectures can be recorded automatically? Yes. Select classrooms feature integrated recording equipment that can capture video, audio, and on-screen content.
I did not request automatic recording of a lecture. Am I able to still record? Yes. You can begin an ad hoc recording which will allow you record the session and have it transferred into your course later.
Can I be provided with a camera operator? We do not provide camera operators as Panopto recording is fully automated. You can utilize the touch controls to adjust your camera field of vision. Some rooms offer automatic tracking.
Does the camera need to see the projector screen? You do not need the camera to record the projector screen. Any content presented will be recorded simultaneously and available within the Panopto editor once processing is complete.
How can I capture content on the whiteboard? Most cameras will not be able to capture all content on a whiteboard. We recommend the use of the document camera and projector screen to record written content.
How can I record in rooms without integrated equipment? There are other options to record in rooms that do not feature integrated recording equipment.

Using Panopto in WebCampus

Question Answer
I do not see Panopto in my course. If you do not see it in the course navigation, you will need to add it.
Will I need to change anything to make content available to the course? By default, once a video is uploaded and processed, students will have access to it. You can adjust availability dates for both folders and individual sessions.
Can users outside of my course see my content? By default, content is only visible to the course in which it is stored. If you wish to share content with users outside of that course, see the Panopto Support resource How to Share a Video.
Can I copy or move my content to other courses, such as if I teach the course again? Videos do not move automatically during a WebCampus course copy. You can utilize copy and move tools within Panopto to accomplish this.
How can I embed content into my WebCampus course, such as in an assignment, quiz, or other page? You can embed Panopto content anywhere the Rich Content Editor is available.
How long will my content be available in a WebCampus course? Availability limits are the same as with accessing the WebCampus course. Access usually beings one week prior to the course start date, and concludes one week after the course end date. Instructors will retain access to the course and its respective Panopto folder indefinitely. If you want to reuse your content in another course, you'll utilize copy and move tools within Panopto to accomplish this.
